Monday, February 23, 2009 – A 1955 Family
You remember the fifties – the Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet and all that. In 1955, Rock Around the Clock was the top hit, but Frank Sinatra singing Love and Marriage was almost as big. It was generally a wholesome, family time in America, and scary and oppressively conformist. October 7, 1955 – the "Six Gallery reading" in San Francisco with Kenneth Rexroth acting as MC, featuring Allen Ginsberg's first reading of "Howl." And also from 1955, sculptures by Renzo Fenci – Father and Son, and Mother and Daughter – 9245 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills. The boy's eyes say it all.
