Just Above Sunset is a weekly web magazine from Hollywood. The office is a little way up in the Hollywood Hills, just east of Laurel Canyon. That's just above Sunset Boulevard, thus the name. In each issue you will find extended commentary on the events of the week - that's the political side of the publication - and a wide array of local photography, everything from architectural studies to real life in Hollywood and Hollywood history, to the beaches, to the array of odd Los Angeles neighborhoods, to special events, to nature photography with a special emphasis on local botanicals. Then there are shots of strange cars out here, and there was that ride in the Goodyear Blimp. For a photographer out here, this is a target-rich environment. All that's the non-political side of things. And then there's the occasional column on the arts or music, or science, or food. Nothing is off-limits here.
But it's more than Hollywood. Almost every week Our Man in Paris, Ric Erickson, editor and publisher of MetropoleParis, provides notes from Paris, with photos. And when possible, Our Man in Tel-Aviv, Sylvain Ubersfeld, provides the words and images from there. Also at irregular intervals you'll find photos and photo-essays from all over - from the wilds of northern Canada to the swamps of northern Florida. And for a smile, each week Andrew J. Hewett provides news of the weird, bizarre and unusual, and there's the weekly array of odd quotes to puzzle you.
There's a lot here. Enjoy. And if you'd like, contribute.
