Tuesday, May 1, 2007 - For the Fun of It

Sometimes things just catch your eye and make you smile.  Driving down Wilshire Boulevard you can get the giggles at La Brea - turn north and the next block is the antiques district, where the droll images just multiply.  Eyes open!

First up is the MTA service center on the northwest corner of Wilshire and La Brea.  This is the wall above the "lost and found" door on Wilshire, sure to put you in a good mood, no matter what you lost on the bus or train.

Just up La Brea is, of course, heaven.

"Heaven" on La Brea, Los Angeles

Above the heaven sign is, perhaps, heaven itself.  This is the tower above the LA Brea Bakery ("the most widely recognized artisan bakery in North America") and Campanile one of the finest restaurants around.  The tower dates from 1929 - Charlie Chaplin was in need of office space and this was his idea. But before the building was completed he lost it in the divorce settlement with his first wife, Lita Grey.  But don't let that get you down.  It's a cool tower.

Check out the kitchen store just up the street!

Next door, France - the real stuff -

And this place will cheer you up (go to the alley) -

Across the street there's a goat that needs you - a bronze Toggenburg, far from the Toggenburg Valley of Switzerland at Obertoggenburg.  The goat has Los Angeles friends, as you see.

A nod to the dark side - the back of the "walk" at Wilshire and La Brea

And one must be careful when parking.  Parking can be just deadly here.
