Sunday, June 3, 2007 – Hollywood Beasts

They are almost finished with the conversion of the Equitable Building - 1929, by Alexander Curlett - on the northeast corner of Hollywood and Vine.  The building is being converted into THE LOFTS @ HOLLYWOOD AND VINE.  What are new are these mythological beasts – arrayed on the decorative façade above the street, before the building sweeps upward.  They've returned from Hollywood's past, from the late twenties, for better or worse. For a view of the whole building with its history, from October 2006, see Verticals – but one might think twice about buying a condominium here. The karma may be just awful.

Hollywood's other relationship to imaginary beasts - a detail from the "You Are a Star" mural by Tom Suriya at the southwest corner of Hollywood and Wilcox (full view here and other detail here in the final three shots).

Make yourself into an imaginary beast at this place – True Tattoo, 1614 North Cahuenga Boulevard, in the center of Hollywood.  Actually these shots are just color studies.  The afternoon sun was just right.
