Friday, December 28, 2007 – It's a Wrap

The year closes, or 2007 just sputters out, here on Hollywood Boulevard. It's that dead time, the Friday between Christmas and New Years Eve – a dull early afternoon in the land of dreams. But you can sit amid the stars and hope to be discovered.

Spiderman no longer impresses anyone.

The surreal tour bus sits idle.  No one is lining up to hop on to the see the "Homes of the Stars."

The posters can make you uncomfortable –

Santa overstays his welcome in a store window, with Hollywood's version of Santa's Little Helper looking over his shoulder.

Below and to the left of Santa, a tribute to the persistent belief in magic that characterizes Hollywood.

Hitch, the master of Hollywood magic, casts a cold eye on it all.

Above Hitch, birds he didn't imagine, one detail left from Hollywood in the twenties.

Technical Note:

Most of these photographs were shot with a Nikon D70 - using lens (1) AF-S Nikkor 18-70 mm 1:35-4.5G ED, or (2) AF Nikkor 70-300mm telephoto, or after 5 June 2006, (3) AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor, 55-200 mm f/4-5.6G ED. They were modified for web posting using Adobe Photoshop 7.0.  Earlier photography was done with a Sony Mavica digital still camera (MVC-FD-88) with built-in digital zoom.
