Thursday, September 13, 2007 – Major Movie Shoot
"Lights, Camera, Action!" Actually no one said that, but all week Sony-Columbia has been filming "a major motion picture" up on Hollywood Boulevard, closing down the street from Highland to Sycamore – right in the heart of Hollywood. The major motion picture is John Hancock. Actually that's the working title, or one of them. It may be called something else. In early 1950 the working title for Sunset Boulevard was "A Can of Beans" – Billy Wilder didn't want anyone to know what he was up to. This movie, whatever it is eventually named, is scheduled to be released on July 2, 2008 – as post-production takes time, and timing the market is critical with popcorn action movies. This particular one is being directed by Peter Berg and stars Will Smith, Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron – "A hard-living superhero (Smith) who has fallen out of favor with the public enters into a questionable relationship with the wife (Theron) of the public relations professional (Bateman) who's trying to repair his image."
Thursday was finishing up the crowd scenes – panic and disaster on Hollywood Boulevard. So here it is in three pages – lights and camera, followed by action. Oh, and by the way, 2008 will bring us a remake of Sunset Boulevard, as a musical with either Glenn Close or Barbra Streisand as Norma Desmond. Whatever.
Step One: Lights
