Wednesday, June 13, 2007 – Sunset Textures

Here are a few shots working on texture, color, and framing, from a sunny Wednesday afternoon, for the photography buffs out there, not those looking for the usual Hollywood stuff and the surfers and all.

Well, the billboard above the Morgan Camera Shop, 6262 Sunset Boulevard, does say "color processing" - if you look closely.

Actually, it's a study in red, white and blue.

Further west on Sunset, where it crosses La Brea, there's the Iranian-Irish ice cream place that's been there forever. Framing the sign can be tricky.

Below the sign, the seedy locksmith's stand –

It's all in the framing – this looking north from Detroit Street, just above Sunset, at the signs up on Hollywood Boulevard.  Making it out here is indeed like pumping heavy, wet concrete.

Most of these photographs were shot with a Nikon D70 - using lens (1) AF-S Nikkor 18-70 mm 1:35-4.5G ED, or (2) AF Nikkor 70-300mm telephoto, or after 5 June 2006, (3) AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor, 55-200 mm f/4-5.6G ED. They were modified for web posting using Adobe Photoshop 7.0. Earlier photography was done with a Sony Mavica digital still camera (MVC-FD-88) with built-in digital zoom.
