Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - Working in Hollywood

Midweek, late afternoon on Hollywood Boulevard, with long shadows, and not that many tourists - and above, guys on the scaffolds applying new advertising to the TV Guide building.  No one can tell yet what it will be. Perhaps they should leave it as it is here.  It's kind of nice as is.

No one paints the wall of the El Capitan Theater next door - 1926, Morgan, Walls, and Clements - as it was restored in 1989 under the supervision of the National Park Service's Department of the Interior, and reopened in June, 1991.  The sky in the windows will do.

Over on Las Palmas, at the "e" theater, someone is shooting a movie. This is best done during the week, to avoid the weekend tourists.

The usual workers are out in front of the Kodak Theater, now that the Oscars are over and done with - but no one is paying attention to them.

The few midweek tourists persist in looking at that sign on the hill.

Most of these photographs were shot with a Nikon D70 - using lens (1) AF-S Nikkor 18-70 mm 1:35-4.5G ED, or (2) AF Nikkor 70-300mm telephoto, or after 5 June 2006, (3) AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor, 55-200 mm f/4-5.6G ED. They were modified for web posting using Adobe Photoshop 7.0. Earlier photography was done with a Sony Mavica digital still camera (MVC-FD-88) with built-in digital zoom.
