All neighborhoods have mysteries. Out here they're just darker. Down the hill, just south of Santa Monica Boulevard on Fairfax, is the Asthma Vapineze sign. It sits on top of an ivy-covered bungalow. Sometimes it's lit up, sometimes not. It's been there for years, but no one knows what it's about. There are surveillance camera signs and motion-detection lights behind the bungalow's iron gates. There's nothing in the Yellow Pages or on the web, but for puzzlement. Perhaps that's how it should be.
And just to the left of the odd sign, this –

Ah, it's a trendy vintage clothing store – no big deal. But, just to the right of the ivy-covered bungalow with its Asthma Vapineze sign, there's an old firehouse that's been converted into a snazzy home and artist's studio, or maybe it's something else. It's hard to tell. They kept the Fallout Shelter sign, and added fake geese.
