	Friday, October 17, 2008 – Friday on Sunset An October Friday afternoon on Sunset Boulevard here in Hollywood – ninety in the shade, dry as a bone, the sky a brutal blue, traffic at a dead stop, and the new Adult Swim billboard looks down on you –




	Next to the billboard – Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper took some of their profits from Easy Rider and opened a western-themed restaurant on the Sunset Strip, Saddle Ranch. Of course it is kitsch, and they sold out their interest in the place long ago. But it remains, kind of a landmark. The celebrity homes float above it – the Hollywood Hills. It's all Hollywood.


	Now this is California – surfboards in a convertible waiting for the light at Billy Wilder Square, Sunset Boulevard at La Brea. Norma Desmond didn't surf.
