Monday, October 13, 2008 – Smoke in the Air
The day opened with howling winds shaking the building and it was dry as bone – humidity at fifteen percent and dropping. Then the sun rose and it was brutal – the Santa Ana's were back, blowing in off the Mojave. Three thousand acres were on fire just north of Burbank, and the other fires broke out a few miles west – homes lost, freeways out there closed down. The smoke from it all blew into the Los Angeles basin and settled in, then spread out across the cold Pacific. It was spooky down on the Sunset Strip.
