This will be gone soon, painted over by other muralists. It's Los Angeles: The Living City – Sandra Drinning, 1990-1991 – on the west wall of the H & K Supermarket, Western Avenue at First. It was sponsored by the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) through a contract with the Cultural Affairs Department of the City of Los Angeles. But a lot has happened in the twenty years since. Civic art of this sort is being effaced by guerilla art, or people's art, or Gangsta art – the stuff done in the middle of the night by no one knows who. It's like the city itself. This mural will be gone soon enough. And like the city itself, enjoy it while you can.
