The photographer, our correspondent in Chicago, leaves for the south of France this week as she does each year.  Here’s what she missed so much.

A friendly fountain in Arles on a hot day (except if you read the sign in the lower right you see you really shouldn’t take a sip)

The rooftops of Provence…

And doorways – an old one in Saint Rémy, and also in Saint Rémy a beaded one I too have been through (but I don’t remember exactly what I needed that day…)

In Menerbes – "I remember this restaurant in Menerbes - on the wall is posted the minutes of the most recent town hall meeting, or the French equivalent thereof, which noted the fact that the ‘Bid Bands of Menerbes’ would be playing that Friday night.  I was sorry to have missed them."

But back in Paris?

Well, you have this really classic truck – and you might wonder if this bakery actually piles baguettes and sweets in that wicker roof rack and delivers these fresh goodies to your door?  Probably not.  It rains a lot in Paris.

And restaurant in the Marais that is a true visual puzzle…

A British Morgan on the banks of the Seine – and if you are foolish enough to drive in Paris at all, and foolish enough to drive in Paris in the summer in particular (except for August when everyone is gone) then a red, wooden frame, drop nose Morgan, with the top down, is probably the best way to do it…

Oddity – The memorial plaque recognizing Bertha Big Foot, Queen of France, wife of Pépin the Short (or short-lived, as it were)
