In the courtyard…

Down the block at the Directors Guild of America, a copper palm…  Yes, this is one very nice union hall.

More jacaranda trees on my street, in bloom in the morning gloom off the Pacific…

And the city looks like this in the distance at nine in the morning in the “June Gloom” of “Jacaranda Time” …

Hollywood Signage

The rail-thin, leather-skinned, deeply tanned seventy-year-old matrons of Beverly Hills probably go here daily, parking their Bentley convertibles out back… and absolutely no one messes with them.

This place on the Sunset Strip might come might come in handy in these troubled times…  Ahmed Chalabi shops here?

Also on Sunset Boulevard amid all the clubs, the place where all the moderately dull television programs get invented – those that turn us into couch potatoes.

You remember that sign in The Great Gatsby that is so ominous?  Here’s the Hollywood equivalent.

This is just depressing – serving the Hollywood Hungarian community for decades…  The Gabor sisters probably did not patronize this place.

From last week's home page...

Here the weather has turned into the normal "Jacaranda Time" – that period from mid-May to late June when the purple jacaranda trees bloom everywhere (they’re in the mimosa family somehow) and each and every day there are thick, low clouds and ground fog off the Pacific until early afternoon, and then it clears to hazy sun and mid-seventies pleasantness.   The fog creeps back in after midnight and the sky gets thick again.   Not a bad six or seven weeks, but the purple blooms fall everywhere and make the streets a little slick at times.   Hell, these purple trees are everywhere.   Surreal.   This Hollywood Boulevard at Gardner.
