Hotrods on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood In
regard to the prose item this week on pseudo-hotrods - April 25, 2004 - Is it time to eschew Roland Barthes for the Marxist critic Walter Benjamin? - here’s a real one on Sunset early Sunday morning. The requisite flames painted
on the door, of course.... But as you see, there is no door, as one is not necessary.
And I’m sure the owner fills this up with "Sunset Oil" from this establishment just across Sunset Boulevard.
And just down Sunset,
east a few blocks, you can get your smokes, and be just like James Dean and roll up the pack in the sleeve of your tight white
t-shirt, and show off your new tattoo.
Or up on Hollywood Boulevard you can buy Egyptian goodies, then wolf down a burrito next door. Hollywood is a cosmopolitan place, isn’t it? And no, I have no idea what Liberace’s
face is doing on the roll-down security door of the shop with the Egyptian gifts.
I thought Liberace was from Milwaukee, and passed through to the next world via Las Vegas. Oh well.
