Immediate Free Hood Ornament


	Park at the lot just above the north side of the Manhattan Beach pier and receive an immediate free hood ornament. Turned off the engine, reached down to grab some quarters for the meter, and this guy decided to offer that service. He (or she) wouldn't move. This is a shot through the windshield.

Note from a reader -

This appears to be a first-winter Heermann's gull. From Sibley's Guide -

A distinctive spieces: dark and unpatterned. About the size of Ring-billed Gull but stockier.

… This unique Pacific species is almost exclusively coastal. With its dark plumage, pointed wings and habit of chasing other seabirds to steal food, it is often mistaken for a jaeger.

This appears to be a young (first-winter) bird. Adult gets more gull-like light/dark coloring.
