Monday, January 12, 2009 – Urban Oasis
New York has Central Park. Los Angeles has Griffith Park – in city limits, right on the edge of Hollywood. In New York they get a skating pond, but we get the Greek Theatre, the Griffith Observatory and planetarium, and the Los Angeles Zoo, and the Museum of the American West – and a merry-go-round. And there's the Hollywood Sign up on Griffith Park's Mount Lee. And there's a cool fountain and all the old trains. But there's also Ferndell – "a favorite Park destination, especially on a hot summer afternoon; but the verdant hues and patterning are a refreshing reprieve at any time of the year."
On a Monday in the middle of January, when it's brutally sunny and in the eighties and dry as a bone – the Santa Ana winds blowing – it's good place to be.
