Monday, December 7, 2009 – Rainy Day Deco

On a rare rainy day on Los Angeles it seemed a good idea to revisit Sunset Tower, the Streamline Moderne Art Deco landmark on the Sunset Strip. Designed in 1929 by architect Leland A Bryant, opened in 1931, yes, it has a more than colorful history (Howard Hughes lived in the penthouse for a time) – but on a rainy day it just becomes spooky.

Sunset Tower, also known as St. James Club, The Argyle, and Sunset Tower Hotel, on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, designed in 1929 by architect Leland A Bryant, opened in 1931, it is considered one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in the Los Angeles area.
