It was a different world. No architects do this any longer. This is the El Capitan Theater – 6838 Hollywood Boulevard – it opened as a legitimate theatre on May 3, 1926, fell in disuse and was restored and is now Disney's flagship theater. The Spanish Colonial Revival exterior was designed by Stiles O. Clements of the architectural firm of Morgan, Walls and Clements. And it's hard to imagine rolling up to this place in your Duisenberg on a warm spring evening in 1926, the sweet smell of orange blossoms in the air, and stepping out in you tuxedo, glancing at these walls, then stepping inside to watch a review starring Gertrude Lawrence and Jack Buchanan. But it happened, long ago.
