Okay, you're at Hollywood and Vine, Bob Hope Square, grooving on all the movie and television stuff – bronze stars in the sidewalk and all that. But if you drive south on Vine, down to the flats with all the prop and costume and lighting and equipment and postproduction houses, and all the warehouses and small production studios you never heard of, down to Santa Monica Boulevard, you come to Hollywood's Theater Row. Turn right – it runs from Vine to Wilcox or so. And this is where it's live, on stage. Here actors don't get to to do another take. And things can't get fixed in the editing room. And it's not a television show where someone adds a laugh track. You're out there on your own. And of course the folks up the hill love it – this is where you learn your craft, the hard way – in the small theaters down here. It's a curious place.
