The residue of a once mighty civilization –

An LA woman –

Mashti Malone's – the ice cream place on La Brea at Sunset – belongs to two brothers, Mashti and Mehdi Shirvani, who grew up Mashhad, a small town in northern Iran. They bought the place in 1980. It had been an ice cream store called Mugsy Malone, and at the time they didn't have enough money to change the sign, so they just added one brother's name and the Farsi. It's a good place for Persian ice cream – rose petal and orange blossom and such things. The shamrock is just residue from the past. It's an LA thing.
