At the corner of Melrose and Wilton Place, a new mural, an homage to Frida Kahlo (born Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón) the famous Mexican painter who mixed realism, symbolism, and surrealism so well – and so you get the Aztec/Mayan symbols, the shape shifters. Kahlo was married to Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, and you might have seen the movie – "From her complex and enduring relationship with her mentor and husband to her illicit and controversial affair with Leon Trotsky, to her provocative and romantic entanglements with women, Frida Kahlo lived a bold and uncompromising life as a political, artistic, and sexual revolutionary." No? Well, it won two Oscars.
Maybe the mural is better.
