Saturday, August 29, 2009 Beat the Heat The last Saturday in August and in the high nineties an hour before noon, and climbing fast The humidity is near zero and there's not even a hint of breeze. All around the city the hills are on fire, and the air smells of smoke. No one is around. We've all been told to stay indoors and try not to breathe too much. But on the corner some lilies are looking cool. |

Above the lilies, the roses are looking hot |

And from home, outside the window, the smoke from distant fires |
