Monday, August 31, 2009 – Just Not Kansas
Hollywood had its best year in 1939 – Gone with the Wind, Dark Victory, Gunga Din, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Charles Laughton), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Stagecoach, The Woman, Merle Oberon in Wuthering Heights, Intermezzo, Jamaica Inn, and of course The Wizard of Oz. Everyone in Hollywood is talking about that last one this August – that Oz movie opened, in August, seventy years ago. That probably explains Dorothy on Hollywood Boulevard on this last day of this August.
