Thursday, April 15, 2010 – The Local Grand Prix |

The Thursday before the annual Long Beach Grand Prix – and the race is Indy cars now, not Formula One – the sponsors took over central Hollywood to show off the cars and hold drifting and pit crew competitions and all that sort of thing. It got very loud out here. The sponsors are Toyota, Izod – the race is part of the Izod Indy Car Series – and a company headquartered down in El Segundo, Mattel. Of course Hot Wheels is a sponsor too. So two blocks Hollywood Boulevard were shut down for two days – but there are always easy detours, and you really can get to the grocery store and home again. And the cars were cool, and there was an open parking space nearby, on Detroit Street, oddly enough. What the heck – it was a giggle. |
