Los Angeles used to be like this. It's the Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits down on Wilshire – mammoths, dire wolves, short-faced bears, ground sloths, and the state fossil of California, the saber-toothed cat, Smilodon californicus. It was forty thousand years ago, the last Ice Age – the tar that bubbled out of the ground, and still does, trapped them all. But it seems they didn't get along anyway. And Los Angeles is still like this.
